Local Heroes

Sat at Sunniside Food Market, Chris Jewitt from Local Heroes approached me and asked to collaborate on a series of products that would showcase and celebrate food culture in the North East. We chatted about how food in the region isn't given the recognition it deserves and that people should know where the food favourites originate from.

We came up with a plan of what we wanted to celebrate first and landed on the 'Pink Slice' as an example of a locally recognisable food but still under appreciated. From the 'Pink Slice' project we decided to design handprinted artwork, greetings cards and gift wrap. We followed a similar pattern as we moved onto 'Tudor Crisps' by creating hand illustrated, digitally printed artwork with a gift wrap and greetings card design.

Most recently, we have collaborated on a collection of six postcards known as 'Stories from Shields'. Each postcard celebrates South Shields food heritage and people's memories of South Shields. They are part of a wider project that includes filmography and a trail connecting it all together with an exhibition at South Shields museum.
